A Web Log, called a Blog these days, serves many different purposes. People use them for business, for religious promotion, for ranting, for political commentary. They’re free and easy and so who knows how many million people have one? How many people dutifully pound away every day or two keeping their blogs up to date? And how many people read them?

Considering the plethora of blogs out in this cyberspace wonderland and the lack of promotion this blog gets my little bit and byte journal gets very few hits and is not likely to get many. Maybe that’s good. This blog is mostly like a diary that has been left on a park bench, leaves fluttering in the wind, a page or two peaked at by the curious before the whole thing gets knocked to the curb and floats away in the gutter.
I bare my soul, speak frankly, make unkind comments on occasion that I never would anywhere else except maybe in the confines of my home. Take me or leave me as you wish. Most people leave. That’s OK, I suppose, since I’m insignificant anyway. I only always wanted to be important so I could be in a position to change the lives of others. In these waning days of my life that does not appear likely so I merely care for my family as best I can and wait.

I’m doing it again. Just when I am completely wrung out and I just want to sit under a tree and contemplate life something in the world comes along and kicks me in the ass. This thing with the Bimbo, Palin, has done that. Not only am I amazed at how stupid McCan’t and Palin think Americans are, I’m incensed that they are right! Good lord, how shallow and uninformed can Americans be?
But I digress.

Former Mayor of New York Ed Koch is a bit of a controversial figure with a long political history. But the last race he got involved with was in 2004 and he endorsed George W. Bush. Koch not only endorsed Bush, but campaigned for him in six states including Florida; so, not exactly a passive endorsement. But now Koch is making it clear that he’s endorsing Obama, and he’s making his reason for switching sides clear: it’s Palin. Ed Koch told Politico’s Ben Smith what he thought of the new VP nominee, “She’s scary.” In his endorsement of Obama, Koch put the sentiment in writing, saying:
If the vice president were ever called on to lead the country, there is no question in my mind that the experience and demonstrated judgment of Joe Biden is superior to that of Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin is a plucky, exciting candidate, but when her record is examined, she fails miserably with respect to her views on the domestic issues that are so important to the people of the U.S., and to me. Frankly, it would scare me if she were to succeed John McCain in the presidency.

I’ve always had a problem with passion. No, I don’t mean romantic or sexual passion but passion for beliefs and points of view and morals and ethics and standards.
The problem is, I just can’t *not* have a point of view or keep my mouth shut. Somehow I got the idea when I was a wee lad that it is everyone’s duty and responsibility to stand up for righteousness and Truth. I have done that. And it has cost me dearly. I’ve lost several jobs and a couple of careers. I’ve become a pariah in my home town for writing letters to the editor. Never once was my intention to be mean or cruel or unkind. I simply did what my conscience said do. In the process I have pushed myself into oblivion.

Don’t remember who said that but it sure is true. Especially when it comes to American politics.
There was an article somewhere, Alternet I think, that pointed out the fact that the war has disappeared. Not from the earth, certainly not, but from the news. Every minute of every day American soldiers–and a growing number of American mercenaries–are battling God knows who in at least two countries. There is NO coverage so who knows exactly what George and Co. is up to. (When I say that understand that I mean Cheney and the Puppet.) But who hears anything? In the days of my youth I remember Vietnam was the lead story every single night. Day after day it was body counts and troop movements and Ho Chi Minh or Peace Talks or whatever. The tinker-toy wars we had in the nineties were front page news, too. (more…)
Maybe, the beginning of the end?
Yesterday was a pleasant day. The kids were doing well. We got a little work accomplished outside. School went well. Daddy didn’t have to go into bear mode all day. The TV wasn’t on at all except for an hour with a History Channel show about ancient underwater discoveries. The little ones were in bed by then and I didn’t pay much attention to the show even though I turned it on. Nobody else was watching at all.
There were plenty of thoughts in my head yesterday. One of them sprouted into a full-blown post. And I pestered the single Yahoo group I’m on now with more musings. I spent quite a bit of time at my desk scouring news sources for real information. Life in this tree-lined cage is difficult for someone whose heart beats to GO. I drove a long-haul truck a few times just to see the country. I long for a way to get back on the open road! …I digress.
The three children who are at this moment down the hall quietly working on math sheets and other school stuff are three beats of the four/four rythm of my heartbeat. My wife, off at work, rounds out the tune. Although our household is topsy-tervy compared to the “average” home I am the leader of this little band and hold the greatest responsibility. As the days go by I grow more concerned about our kids’ future and about what we really should do. (more…)
